Content: Each of us is a member of numerous circles of influence, such as a workplace,
neighborhood, club or organization, school, center of faith, condominium
association, etc. Each circle provides a natural arena for a motivated individual to engage in creating a more sustainable culture. Each of us can do our part to facilitate changes in the circles we encounter on a regular basis.
This six-session class covers the theory, practice, and tools of a change agent working within a chosen circle of influence. Each participant will select one circle of influence, develop a strategy and plan for change, and take steps of early implementation, in consultation with other members in the class. This class is appropriate for individuals who are just starting out or those already deep in the process of creating changes to protect the Earth.
Specific topics covered include:
- Theories and strategies for cultural change; key role of the circle of influence.
- Mindset of the agent of change; clarifying your vision.
- Understanding your circle of influence; first steps to effect change.
- Implementing your plan.
- Inviting others; creating a core group.
- Maintaining momentum.
Presenters: This class was created by Jeanne and Dick Roy, co-founders of the Center for Earth Leadership, the Northwest Earth Institute, and the Oregon Natural Step Network. They will be assisted by additional instructors.
Participants: This class is intended for motivated individuals who wish to help create a sustainable future and who are ready to prepare and implement a project to reduce human impact on the earth.
